Obesity is caused by a lot of factors. These factors include overeating, sedentary lifestyle as well as genetics. Although fat is helpful to our body since they help in regulation of our body’s temperature, an excess of these can already be harmful. The factors mentioned above can actually aid in the buildup of excess fats in our body thus resulting to the increase in body weight.
Obesity, on the other hand, can be the cause of a lot of serious problems especially on your health. Aside from the fact that it can lower your self-confidence, it can also lead to a dozen of diseases which include diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and a lot more. Because of this alarming fact, the world of medicine has already made ways in order to prevent this condition from worsening. Overweight or obesity can be easily fought through a lot of ways. Exercise and diet are the number one treatment in defeating this condition. Some medicines are also being manufactured to inhibit the body from forming and storing fat, these drugs are classified as anti-obesity drugs. However, once obesity becomes categorized as morbid, then it is a different story.
Morbid obesity occurs when ever the BMI (Body Mass Index) of a person exceeds 35. The normal BMI of a healthy individual is from 20 to 25. BMI of 26 to 29 are classified as overweight while 30 to 34 are under the obese category. When a person reaches the morbid obese category, drastic changes must be immediately made. Here are some things that you can try to combat this awful condition.
- Engaging in exercise and diet programs. Although doing exercises can be very difficult and also harmful at this stage of obesity, there are certain exercise programs designed to help weight loss in a morbid obese person. There are even reality shows that train people with BMI ranging from 36 above to do exercises safely and efficiently. This regimen is also paired with eating the right kind of food that is healthy and low in calorie. This is however, only possible with the help of trained exercise instructors because risks can be great at this stage.
- Submitting to Surgery. If all hope fails, then you can always go for the invasive interventions. One known treatment is the Bariatric Surgery. This operation includes gastric bypass, banding and stomach gastrectomy. Although these solutions are proven to be more effective than other weight loss techniques, these still need post operative dietary and exercise regime.
Being healthy weight is never easy. It takes a lot of will and determination in order to achieve your goal. The important thing to remember is that once you’ve already got your desired weight, you should always know how to maintain it because the battle still continues.
