You can’t be too young to start a financial plan, even if that means your parents starting one for you when you were a baby.

There’s something really crazy about time. We don’t have a lot of it, but a lot can happen in what we do have. The longer you save, the more money you have. The longer you invest, the larger your investment grows. The sooner you start saving for future goals, the sooner you’ll get there. Don’t take time lightly. Being spontaneous is fun, but you don’t have to be irresponsible to be spontaneous. A little bit of structure in your life, especially in the financial sense, is extremely beneficial.

It’s Easy

Money can be complicated. How many people can name 6 different securities and how many people know how to go about purchasing half of those investments? When you start young, your finances are simple. A budget is easy because there are fewer expenses. If you start when things are easier, you don’t have to put as much time and effort into learning what you need to know. You don’t need to get a free personal finance software program to budget for 2 or 3 expenses as a teenager, but if you already know how to budget for those expenses and savings goals, when you begin to add in more expenses, investments, and other finance issues over time, it will be a lot easier.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people say, “I (We, He, She, They) need to learn from their own mistakes!” Why? Why can’t they learn from other people’s mistakes? It’s a whole lot easier and faster. I chose to learn from my parents debt and financial mistakes and started a financial plan when I was a teenager. Now I am a college graduate with a Bachelors degree and a career with absolutely no debt. I have never paid a penny in interest in my life, and I am right on track with my own financial plan. I’m not a stuffy, boring person either. I started planning when it was easy and too hardly any time at all. Now it continues to be easy, simple, and beneficial.
