			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Many of us are considering a new exercise regime as the new year approaches.  For some reason, year after year, we all set January 1st as the day we will begin on the path to good health.  It is almost as if New Year&#8217;s Day is the starting point of all change.  It can be, but we can begin at any time of the year.  Since most of us think of joining a gym in the new year or purchasing an exercise bike, we put exercise clothes and equipment on our Christmas lists.  We delight when we upwrap all the new togs for getting in shape.  We show off our new exercise equipment as if it is the answer to all our weight woes.  Yet, by mid-January the clothing is still in the box and the bike has become something to avoid in the bedroom.</p>
<p>What few of us realize is that we do not need to spend a fortune on clothes or equipment to get into shape.  We can purchase everything we need for under $100.  Of course, the key is to using the equipment, not buying it.</p>
<p>For those who plan to get in shape and live a healthier lifestyle, all that is needed is a good exercise mat and a set of resistance bands.  <a title="Investing in an Exercise mat" href="http://theexercisemat.com/topic/investing-in-an-exercise-mat" target="_blank">Exercise mats</a> vary in price, size, and purpose.  Thin mats are used for yoga and pilates.  Thicker mats are used for higher impact exercises.  Yoga mats are more or less designed to designate our workout space.  They provide little comfort or cushioning.  The thicker mats are used for exercises that require a little more movement and perhaps aerobics.  To be honest, if the mat is for home use, it is suggested that one that is .6&#8243; to 1&#8243; is ideal whether doing yoga, pilates, or aerobic exercises.</p>
<p>The other equipment needed to build muscle tone is the resistance band.  A set of <a title="The Exercise Mat" href="http://theexercisemat.com" target="_blank">resistance bands</a> can be quite inexpensive, often costing less than $30 for a set.  Resistance bands come in an array of strengths, from the very light and stretchy bands to those that offer maximum resistance.  Even in hospitals and for physical or occupational therapies, resistance bands have replaced free weights.  They do the same job with less risk of injury.  They are light in weight and easily put away &#8212; no more stumbling over the free weight on the floor!</p>
<p>When making the wish list this year, include exercise mats and resistance bands for the easiest and least expensive way to get a good workout.  After a year of training and toning, chances are the exercise bike or the treadmill will not be missed.</p>
