Padded Bras – Cheating Or Comfort?
When I was at school, being spotted wearing a padded bra on PE day was something that could get you seriously teased – it was as if you were presenting yourself as having ideas that your body was not quite living up to. The only exception to this was a padded bandeau bra, as it was commonly accepted that the padding was an essential part of helping to keep the critter in it’s Northern spot and not sliding South! Not that you’d wear a bandeau on PE day! However, having had a decade or two to mature in respect of the issue, it now seems fair to consider the other side of the padding story!
Protection
Depending on your role in life, a padded bra can offer a lot more protection than the run of the mill unpadded, lacy bra, for example. Padding can be a godsend in at least two ways:
- The padding offers protection when heaving piles of books and folders or other everyday items around.
- Padding does not reveal any potentially embarrassing struggle you are having on a cold day. This is a benefit of a padded bra not realized until you have experienced the alternative!
Comfort
When pregnant, a padded bra can offer much more in the comfort factor than the unpadded variety. In those few months where everything is so achy, the comfort from a padded bra is a small way by which you can pamper your growing breasts before the onslaught of breast-feeding!
Body shape
But not in the same way as in the teenage years – it’s not necessarily about pretending to have more than there really is, but can be about giving a bit of symmetry and definition to what’s actually there:
- After breast-feeding, the relative size of each breast can vary, but any obvious discrepancy between the two can be minimised with the right size of padded bra.
- As advancing years provide a girl with a more matronly chest, a padded bra can be useful for giving a more ‘forward’ definition than unpadded bras, which can have a tendency to let things wander under the armpits unchecked! Of course, this is the one area that even a padded bandeau bra can’t help – a large chest needs more in the way of gravity than padding to stay up without straps!
So there you are, lots of sensible reasons why padding in your bra is not cheating! It’s good to know that we can be more mature about these things as we get older!
