What A Successful Internet Business Requires

I’m sure you have seen the ads on TV claiming they will give you an internet business in a box so you too can make thousands of dollars a month by doing basically nothing.  Because of the nature of online businesses, these advertisements make no sense.  No one would sell you a turnkey internet business because they would just keep them for themselves.

Let me explain. One of the biggest pluses to internet marketing is the fact that once a website is set up with a good traffic flow of visitors there is really not a lot too do.  You have to put in a lot of time up front by creating the content for your site and then working on your methods of generating visitors, but once it is working it can often times run on its own for several days or weeks at a time.  You just set up the sales mechanisms, whatever they are, to work without human intervention and you have a passive income stream.

Don’t be confused, there is a lot of work required to do these two steps.  In fact the creation of a stream of potential customers will take up the majority of your time.  You either need to become proficient in Search Engine Optimization, that is getting your website ranked high up in the search pages such as Google or Bing, or you need to experiment with Pay Per Click advertising.  This is a beast all its own.  You can expect to spend around 10%, or less, of your time creating a website, and at least 90% of the time getting people to visit the site.

These TV ads that claim they are selling you a successful internet business are in reality helping you with less than 10% of your work.  And they provide very little information about how to be successful with the other 90%.  Most of the time these pitchmen give the impression that all you need to do is throw up a website and you will get rich.  This is not the case.

But think about this.  If that was true then why wouldn’t these guys just keep those sites for themselves so they could make even more money?  It is food for thought.
