What Is The Best Asphalt Sealer
For the maintenance of your asphalt driveway, the most important thing you should do is to seal it every three or four years for two great reasons. First, the surface will look great again. Once your driveway starts showing signs of wearing off, using a good quality sealant can make it look great again. The second and more important reason is the sealer gives protection to the surface so that it can have a longer life. Asphalt breaks down naturally as time passes because of sunlight and the extreme temperatures of winter. If you don’t seal your asphalt driveway, you have to face two possible problems. First, the upper layer of the asphalt floor will degrade and all that will be left of the surface is aggregate. The aggregate, also known as gravel, can never stand alone so, without the support of the asphalt oil, the gravel is washed away and holes are left behind. Second, once the upper seal is eliminated, water seeps into the material which can cause it to break and crack once the water freezes.
All of these problems are alleviated once you apply a good quality sealer. For your information, the best asphalt sealer is made up of a different base material than petroleum. Coal oil is much better when used for the base material of sealants because of its remarkable ability to bond. Coal oil is the residue left after the production of coke that is utilized as a heating agent during the manufacture of steel.
A product based on coal oil is not recommended for use as a garage floor sealant because of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that it emits. VOCs can build up in an enclosed space and can cause health problems. This product should only be used in an open area where fresh air is abundant so that the volatiles can dissolve. If you want to apply a sealer inside your house, you can still use a product based on asphalt but it should include extra polymers to assist during bonding.
